答え; I am sorry for being late yesterday

= I am sorry that I was late yesterday

 

説明; ' be sorry for[about]...ing' は (既に)...してことをすまなく思っている. 前置詞 for, about 

後ろに 名詞や, 動名詞が来ます. すでに発生したことに対して..謝罪, 弁明をする時に使う.

一方, be sorrry + to不定詞 ; ...することを申し訳ないと思う. 詳しいことは 第2部を参考してください

 

例文1 I am sorry to announce that the flight has been canceled.

例文2 I am really sorry for not having answered to your questions

1. ここで,

 

be sorry for ...ing ; (既に) ...したことをすまなく思っている.

be sorry to不定詞 ; ..することを申し訳なく思う

 

は regret の使い方と同じです.  

 

I regret rejecting your offer (既に) ..したことを後悔する

I regret to say that we must reject your offer ; 残念ですが, あなたの提案を断ります.
