Good morning all,
 
We are having a heavy rain with strong wind this morning
here in Tokyo. Weather is not so cold with the temperature
of 13 degree this morning but the heavy rain and wind
make me feel colder than the actual weather temperature.

ここで the more, the merrier は [ the 比較級, the 比較級 ]
表現で[ より...すれば するほど, より ....する ] との 意味で
よく使われる 慣用表現です。 
 
以下の 例文は 会話でも よく 使います!
 
日本語で;
より...すれば するほど, より ...する  を 表したい 時は 
この 表現を 使ってみてください.
 
例えば;
(a) The more, the better( 多ければ 多いほど, より 良い)
(b) The sooner, the better
(c) The more, the merrier

ここで twice her age は 彼女 年より 2倍差 を 表す倍数の表現です。
年, 背, 体重などを 表す age, height,weight単語 前に 倍数な 分数を
置いて 表す 表現です.
age, height, weight, length, size, length, number, amount, rate
だけに 使う表現です。
 
以下の 例文を みて ください。
 
日本語で;
年, 背, 体重 の 倍数を 表したいの 時は
倍数/分数 + 人称代名詞 + age/height/weight などの 表現を
使ってみてください。
 
例えば;
(a) He is twice my age
(= He is twice older than me )
( = He is twice as old as me )
(b) They have sold five times the number of cars they predicted
(c) My little brother is half my height
(d) India is one-third the size of the United States.

Words,Phrases & Patterns

> roughly ; (数) およそ、だいたい

ここで two-thirds of は 3分の 2, two-fifths of は 5分の 2.
分子が 複数の場合の 分数 表現は 分母(序数)に s を
つけます。
2分の...を 表す half は halves, 4分の..を 表す quarter は
quarters. その他には 分母 序数に s を 付けます。
 
参考で, 以下の 例文で two halves, three quarters 以外は
分子 分母間に ( - ) ハイフン を 用います。
 
日本語で;
分子が 複数の 分数 を 表したい 場合は 序数 分母の
s を つけて つかってください。 
 
例えば;
(a) 2分の 2 = two halves
(b) 3分の 2 = two-thirds
(c) 4分の 3 = three quarters
(d) 5分の 2 = two-fifths
(e) 10分の 4 = four-tenths

As weather forecast said, it rained a lot yesterday evening and
night. now it stopped and weather will be getting better but
it is cold and windy this morning in Tokyo.

移民がこの州の人口の4分の1を構成し、またいわゆる

( 分数 表現 です!  )
 
Words,Phrases & Patterns

ここで a quarter は 4分の 1, a third は 3分の 1. 分数
です。 分数を 表す時 分母を 序数詞に します。
そして, ここで a は one の意味です。
2分の 1は 分母が half, 4分の 1は 分母が quarter,
その以外は 分母に 序数を 用います。
 
日本語で;
..分の 1 を 表したい 時は 2分の 1, 4分の 1 を その以外
を区分し、分母に 序数を 用いてください。
 
例えば;
(a) 2分の 1 = a half / one half
(b) 4分の 1 = a quarter / one quarter
(c) 3分の 1 = a third / one-third
(d) 5分の 1 = a fifth / one-fifth
(e) 10分の 1 = a tenth / one-tenth

our homeland, refused to surrender or retreat.
 
敵軍は二倍の勢力があったが、我が軍の勇敢な兵士達
は祖国を守る決意を強く固め、降伏することも退却する
こともしなかった。
( 本当に 勇敢な 軍隊ですね! )
 
Words,Phrases & Patterns
> despite ; ..にもかかわらず( = in spite of )
> brave ; 勇敢な
> determine ; ..を決定する
> refused to 動詞 ; ...することを拒否する
> surrender ; 降伏する
> retreat ; 退却する
 
ここで twice as power full as we were  twice as..... as
二倍 の 倍数表現です. 1倍, 2倍, 3倍 の倍数を
表す時は 等級の( 1倍 ) を 表す as......as 前に half, twice
( two times ), three times を 置いて 表現します。
ですから、
He is as tall as I am (1倍 - 私の 背を同じ)
He is half as tall as I am ( 半分 )
He is twice as tall as I am (2倍)
He is three times as tall as I am (3倍)
 
参考1: as......as で前の as は 副詞, 後ろの asは 接続詞です。
 後ろのasが 接続詞ですから、 as 後に "主語 動詞" の 節が
来たことです。
後ろのasが 前置詞であれば、 名詞が 来ます。
 
参考2: 2倍, 3倍の 倍数を 比較級 thanで 表すことも出来ます。
twice taller than I am, three times taller than I am。。。
 
日本語で;
半分, 2倍, 3倍などの 倍数 を表したいの時は
half/twice/three times as .....as...或いは
half/twice/three times。。。 thanを使ってみてください。
 
例えば;
(a) This planet is half as large as the Earth
(a) This planer is half larger than the Earth
( この惑星は 地球の 半分の大きさだ)
(b) This country is twice(two times) as large as that
(b) This country is twice(two times) larger than that
( この 国は あの 国の 2倍の 大きさだ )

It is sunny morning but a bit chilly wind make me feel colder than yesterday.

二日酔いで頭がガンガンする。昨晩の同窓会で愉快さの
あまり、つい飲み過ぎちゃったよ
( 二日酔いを I have a hangover  と言います)
 
Words,Phrases & Patterns
> hangover ; 二日酔い
> reunion ; 同窓会
> have a good time ; 楽しい時間を過ごす
> end up ...ing ; 結局。。することになる
 
ここど more than  than は 比較級 比較 対象を
表す 前置詞 と 接続詞で 用います。
as も 比較の対象を 表す 前置詞 と 接続詞です。
...than は ..より  の 比較で as....as は ..と 同じくらい
 同級 を 表します。
例えば,
He is taller than I ( am tall ) は 彼が 私より 背が 高い,
He is as tall as I ( am tall ) は 彼の背が 私を 同じ。
この場合の than, as は 接続詞 ( than, as 後ろが "me" ではなく "I"
であるため). 前置詞で 用い場合は 後ろに 目的の 代名詞が来る。
He is taller than me
He is as tall as me
 
なお、接続詞で 使う場合は 後ろに 反復するものは 省略する。
He is taller than I ( am tall は省略された)
 
日本語で, ..より と 比較級を 話したい場合は than、
....と 同じくらい.....の 同級を話したい場合はas.....as を
使ってみてください。
 
例えば;
(a)
(전치사) He is taller than me
(접속사) He is taller than I ( am )
 
(b)
(전치사) He is about as tall as me
(접속사) He is about as tall as I ( am )
 
(c)
(전치사) He works harder than us
(접속사) He works harder than we ( work )

No matter how abundant natural resources may seem,
they are limited and bound to be exhausted, so
why don't we utilize them sensibly?
 
天然資源が いかに豊富に思えても、有限であり,
(いずれは) 必ず枯渇します。 ですから,
我々 資源を 賢く 利用しましょうね.! ( 本当に そうですね )
 
ここで " No matter how abundant " は " いかに。。。ても
(。。。には形容詞か副詞 ) "と言う (形容詞の程度)が いか
に。。。。でも の副詞接を作ります。
how は後ろに形容詞か副詞が来ると 程度を表す。
( ここで howは "どのように"という 方法を表す 疑問詞ではない)
 
日本語で " いかに (形容詞の程度)が ....でも" と 表現したい場合は, 
No matter how + 形容詞、副詞 を使ってみてください.
( however 形容詞/副詞。。)も 可能。
 
例えば;
a. No matter how long it will take, I will continue to study english.
(時間が いかに 長く かかっても, 私は 英語勉強を 続きます )
b. However difficult the problem is, I will solve it.
(問題が いかに 難しいでも, 私は解決します)

私達の不安を和らげるために課長は「自分で思い通りに
やってくれ。うまく行かなかった場合の責任は全て

Words,Phrases & Patterns
> relieve  ; (不安を) 和らげる
> anxiety ; 不安, 心配, anxious 不安な
> take responsibility for.... ; ..に対する 責任を 取る
 
ここで Do as you please  as は 接続詞で ...のように,
..と同じように の 意味です. ...のように の意味では like....を
つかいますが, asが 正式な表現で, likeはくだけた 言い方
で使います。
参考で, as は 副詞では ....と同じくの意味、前置詞では
...として の 意味になります。
 
今日は as(接続詞) の .....のように について 知って置きましょう!
 
日本語で, ..欲しい通りに, 指示した通りに, 話した通りに と
言いたい時は as, likeを 使ってみてください。
 
例えば;
a. Do as you like ( 好きな通に )
b. Do as you want ( 欲しい通りに )
c. Do as I told you ( to do ) ( 私が 指示した通に )
d. Do like I told you ( to do ) ( 私が 指示した 通に )
e. As I said, it is rather urgent ( 話した通に, これは 急を要するのです )
f. Like I said, it is rather urgent ( 話した通りに)、これは急を要するのです)

Here are examples of arithmatic calculations: Two point
five multiplied by four equals ten; seven divided by three
is two with a remainder of one.
 
ここに算数計算の例があります。2.5掛ける4は10.
7割る3は2, 余り1.
( 掛ける, 割る, 足す, 引く )
 
Words,Phrases & Patterns
> arithmatic  ; 算数、算数の
> multiply ; 掛ける、増やす
> remainer ; 残り、余り ; remain 残る
 
ここで multiplied は 掛けられると, divided 割られると との 意味です。
参考で, 掛けるではなく、掛けられる、 割るではなく割られる
 過去分詞(文法的に)を 使うことを 覚えましょう
 
以下の 例文で 足す, 引く も 一緒に 勉強しましょう!
( = は  is, equal, make の 中で一つを 使う )
 
日本語で, 掛ける, 割る, 足す, 引く を 表現したい場合、
multiplied, divided, plus, minus 動詞を 使ってみてください。 
 
例えば;
a. 2 multiplied by 4 is/equals/makes 8 ( 2 x 4 = 8 )
b. 30 divided by 6 is 5 ( 30 割る 6 は 5 )
c. 2 plus 5 equals 7 ( 2 + 5 = 7 )
d. seven minus three is four ( 7 - 3 = 4 )

It is such a nice and clear skies this morning here in Tokyo.

This is what I did to lose weight. First, I took up
swimming, and second, I avoided eating between
meals, and lastly, I cut down on high-calorie foods.
 
これは私が体重を減らすために行ったことですが、まず
最初に水泳を始めて、次に間食を避け、最後に
カロリーの高い食べ物の量を減らしました。
( ダイエット, この 三つの方法で やって十分かも! )
 
Words,Phrases & Patterns
> First..., second..., lastly.... ; 一番目に,二番目に、最後に
> take ...up ; ( 趣味,活動,仕事 )を 始める
> eat between meals ; 間食を食べる
> cut down on ; ...量(回数)を減らす
 
ここで lose weight は 体重を 減らす の 意味です。
参考で, gain[put on] weight  体重が 増える の 意味です。
 
日本語で " 体重を 減らす ", " 体重が 増える"と 言いたい時は, 
lose weight, gain[put on] weight を 使ってみて ください。 
 
例えば;
a. I took up aerobics to lose weight.  
(体重を 減らすために、エアロビクスを 始めた)
b. She is trying to lose weight 
(彼女は体重を減らすために、頑張っている)
c. He has gained[put on]weight since he gave up smoking
( タバコを やめた後から 彼は 体重が 増えた )

it is warmer than yesterday with the temparatue of 15 degrees
and it is so nice weather this morning here in Tokyo,

"As far as I can remember, it costs at least 10 pounds.
You might want to fix it yourself."
 
"パンクを修理してもらうといくらかかるのですか?"
"私の記憶では、少なくとも10ポンドかかる。
自分で修理した方がいいかもね"
( パンク 修理 自分でやりますか?)
 
Words,Phrases & Patterns
> have  ; (使役動詞) ここでは ( 業者にやらせて) パンクを 修理する
> flat tire ; パンクタイヤ. ( punk )とは いわない
> fix ; = repair, = mend 修理する
> as far as ; ....する限りでは
 
ここで at least 는 少なくとも , 意味の 副詞です。 
逆に, at most は 最大でも, せいぜい, の 意味の 副詞です.
 
日本語で " 少なくとも ", " 最大でも "と 言いたい時は, 
at least, at mostを 使ってみて ください。
 
例えば;
a. a monthly income of at least $1,000  (少なくとも $1000 の 月収入)
b. It will take at least 1 year (少なくとも 1年は かかる)
c. There were 50 people there, at most.
(そこには 人が せいぜい 50人 いった)
