説明; ' keep[prevent/stop]... from ....ing' ..が ...するのを防ぐ, 妨げる.

物を主語にして, '...のせいで ...するのが出来ない' でよく訳します. 動名詞を用いた 

とても重要な熟語でしょう. 詳しいは 第2部を 参考してください!

1. '動名詞' を用いた次の表現、知っていましたか?

 

keep[prevent/stop] 目的語 from ..ing .. ; (目的語)が ...するのを防ぐ,妨げる

 

この３つの単語 ( keep, prevent, stop ....from ...ing )は 同じ意味で使えます.

 

The doctors tried to keep[prevent/stop] the virus from spreading ->

医師たちはそのウイルスがまん延するのを防ごうとした

The heavy rain kept us from going out.

Her illness kept her from working for several weeks

 

ひどい雨が我々が出かけるのを妨げた -> ひどい雨で出かけることができなかった

説明> ここで keepという単語は本来, '守る, 維持する'でしょう. 例えば,

How can we prevent the disease from spreading?
