The weather has been changed from sunny to rainy

through the night and it is rainy this morning here in Tokyo

and it is colder than yesterday and day time highs

will be around 11 degrees. 

Here is today's english!

The more I thought about the enormous size of the

assignment, the less confident I became that I could

get it done by the deadline.

 

与えられた仕事の膨大さを考えれば考えるほど、締め切り

までに仕上げられるという自信がより薄れていった。

( より ..すれば するほど, その分 より ...する! )

 

Words,Phrases & Patterns

> enormous ; 巨大な, 膨大な

> assignment ; （与えられた）仕事, 使命
> confident ; 確信している, 自信がある

> get....done ; ( 仕事などを ) 仕上げる, 終える

> deadline ; 最終期限
 

ここで The more 主語 動詞....., the less 主語 動詞..... は 

the 比較的 の 慣用表現の 一つで,

[ より...すれば するほど, その分 より....する ]との意味です。

前の more は much形容詞の 比較級,後ろの the more は

その分 と言う 代名詞です. ですから

前はより....すればで、 後ろのthe more は その分　より と

翻訳します。

 

The more 主語 動詞....., the more 主語 動詞....

The more 主語 動詞....., the less 主語 動詞....

 

参考で, 以下の 例文で, 後ろの the more後に 修飾語は あれば、 

すぐ 後に 来ていることも 記憶してください。

 

日本語で;

より ...すれば するほど, その分 より....する  を 表したい 場合は 

この 表現を 使って　みてください.

 

例えば;

(a) The more he talked, the more bored I became. 

(彼がはなしたら　話すほど、私は その分 より 退屈になった)

(b) The more effort you make, the more you get out of it.

(より努力すればするほど、その分 より getする)

(c) The more I know him, the more I like him.
