How chilly air it is! this morning here in Tokyo.

It is clean and blue sky this morning but colder than

yesterday with morning lows of 7.6 degrees and daytime

highs of 12 degrees. 

 

Here is today's english!

" If possible, I'd like you to postpone your arrival.

"All right. If necessary, I'll change the date."

( I would like you to ..; ...していただきたい! )

 

" できましたら, お越しいただくのを少し先に延ばして

頂きたいんですが。いま、仕事部屋が混沌とした状態でして"

"承知しました、必要とあらば、日を改めます"

 

Words,Phrases & Patterns

> would like ...to 動詞 ; ..して 頂きたい!

> if necessary ; 必要であれば
 

ここで if possible, if necessary  は 本来 if ( it is ) possible,

If ( it is ) necessary で if 副詞節で 主語と 動詞が 省略されたことです。

 

( if, when, whenever, where, wherever ) + possible, necessary

普通 it is を 省略して 慣用的に使いますので, 以下の 慣用表現を

そのまま　使ってください。

 

[ possible ]

If possible ( もし可能なら )

when possible ( 可能な時 )

whenever possible ( 可能な時は　常に )

where possible ( 可能な 状態で )

wherever possible ( 可能な 状態では 常に )

 

[ necessary ]

If necessary ( もし必要なら )

when necessary ( 必要な時 )

whenever necessary ( 必要な時は 常に )

where necessary ( 必要な状態では )

wherever necessary ( 必要な状態では 常に )

 

日本語で;

...もし可能なら, もし必要なら と　言いたい時は　if possible,

if necessary......

 

例えば; 

(a) Use an artificial sweetener whenever possible.

( 可能な限り 人口甘味料を 使ってください )

(b) Help must be given where necessary.

( 手助けというのは 必要な 情況で 行わねばならない )
