Good morning all,

 

In Japan, Rain is comming up from southern areas to

to central areas and it will be rainy from this evening

in Tokyo but the waether will be relatively warm with

morning lows of 7.7 degrees and daytime highs of 13

degrees.

Here is Today's English.

superior to us? " " In terms of brand image and, above

all, variety of merchandise."

( ブランドイメージと 商品の 多様性! )

 

Words,Phrases & Patterns

> candid ;  率直な

> in ....respect ; ...な点（面）において
> in terms of ; ...という観点から

> above all ; なによりも

> variety ; 多様性

> merchandize ; 商品
 

ここで superior は ラテン語から 由来した 比較級で 一般の

形容詞の 比較級が er ( smart -> smarter ) であるに 対して

ラテン語 単語の 比較級は or に なります. そして, 一般の

形容詞の 比較級の 比較対象を...than を 使って 表している事に

対してラテン語では to を 使います。

 

be superior to.. ; ( ...より 優れている ...)

be inferior to... ; ( ...より 劣等な ....)

be senior to... ; ( ...より (地位,年が) 上である...)

be junior to... ; ( ...より (地位,年が) したである...)

prefer A to B ; ( B より Aを　好きな )

 

日本語で;

ラテン語 比較級 沢山 使いますので, ぜひ 暗記してください.

 

例えば; 

(a) This is superior to that

(b) This is inferior to that

(c) He is 3 years senior to me

(d) I prefer this to that

(e) He is second to none in popularity
