There is a little bit clouds in the sky this morning but it will be gone this afternoon and
the sky will be blue during the daytime. It is 5.2 degrees this morning and daytime highs
will be about 10 degrees here in Tokyo.
Here is Today's English
Seq 68 ( unit 4 ) : lesson 13 ( 数量形容詞 each, both)
[ each - ２つ 以上の 物/人 修飾して " それぞれの...."を表す数量形容詞, 単数名詞 修飾]
[ both - ２つ 物/人 修飾して " 両方の,..."を表す 数量形容詞,複数名詞 修飾]
[each - それぞれの, 単数名詞修飾, 単数扱い ]
1. Each country has its own customs (それぞれの 国は それぞれの慣習がある)
2. The teacher gave three books to each boy ( その先生は それぞれのboyに 本3冊 くれました)
[both - 両方の, 複数名詞 修飾, 複数扱い]
3. I have lost both my gloves (両方の手袋を 失った)
4. Both his parents will come to Japan next month (彼の 両親が 来週 日本に きます)
[each side, both sides ]
(each, both が side, endを 使われる時は 意味は両方の。。.を 同じく訳されます)
5. There are tall trees on each side of the river (その川 両方に 大きい 木があります)
6. There are tall trees on both sides of the river (その川 両方に 大きい 木があります)
[not...both ; 両方とも ...ことではない ; 部分否定]
( not....either....は 両方とも ,,,ないの 全体否定 )
7. I do not need both tickets ( ticketが 両方とも 必要ことではない - 部分否定)
8. I do not need either ticket ( どちらのtickeｔもいらない - 全体否定 )

> custom ; [C] 慣習, ここではcustomsは custom(慣習)複数, customs=税関の意味でも使う
> parent ; [C]（父 あるいわ 母), parentsで 両親
今日は [ ２つ以上 それぞれの、2つ両方の ] を 表す 数量形容詞 each, bothを 勉強します.
1. each は ２つ以上の 物/人の名詞を 修飾して それぞれの.., 単数名詞 修飾する事を おぼえよう.
例文1番で each country has.... country単数名詞で, 単数扱いだから has....
例文2番で each boy ....boy単数名詞 修飾している
2. bothは 両方の 意味で,複数名詞修飾, 複数扱い
例文3番で both my gloves.... gloves複数名詞修飾, 両方の 手袋...
例文4番で both his parents ....parents複数名詞 修飾, 父 母 両方ともに
3. each, both が side, endの 名詞と 使われる時は " 両方の.."同じ意味で 訳される.
ただ, 単数修飾, 複数修飾が 違う.
例文5番で each side of the river... each side 単数修飾
例文6番で both sides of the river....both sides 複数修飾
4. not .....both ; 両方とも ...ことではない ; "部分否定" という
例文7番で ....not need both tickets ; ticket両方とも必要ことではない と 訳します.
( not ...both ; 結局 どちら 一つだけ必要の意味になるので "部分否定"という) 一方,
例文8番で ....not need either ticket ; 二つ中、どちらのticketも要らないことの
意味で "全体否定" といいます. either については 明日 勉強します.
5. = not ...both ; "部分否定 - 訳する方法" ぜひ 覚えてください.
not ....both... ; 両方とも 。。。ことではない.
not ....all... ; すべて 。。。ことではない...
参考で; each, every, all の 差異.
each - 個別的
all - 包括的
every - eachと all 両方の 意味を 持つ.
日本語で; " その 箱の 両方には取っ手があります" と言いたい時は?
( each ２つ以上の , both 両方の を表す数量形容詞 each, both を 使ってみて ください )
( eachは 単数名詞修飾, bothは 複数名詞を 修飾する事を 記憶しよう )
例えば;
(a) There is a handle on each side of the box.
(b) There is a handle on both sides of the box.
