How many hours will you spare for your english study during the weekend?
How cold it is! It is about 1.9 degrees this morning here in Tokyo and
it will be about 10 degrees during the daytime. Actually I got a cold
because of this cold weather! Please be careful not to catch a cold!

Seq 60 ( unit 4 ) : lesson 9 (数量形容詞 a few, a little と few, little)

1. She has a few friends.

3. She does not have many friends.
4. There are a few flowers in the garden.

Words,Phrases & Patterns
> a few ; (数の形容詞) 少しの。。,
> few ; (数の形容詞、否定的に) ほとんどない, 少ししかない。。
> a little ; (量の形容詞) 少しの。。,
> little ; (量の形容詞、否定的に) ほとんどない。。,少ししかない。。
今日は[少しの a few, a little] と [ほとんどない。。few, little]について 勉強します。
a few - 少しある。。( 肯定的) 加算名詞 複数に用い、複数扱い。
few - ほとんどない。。(a なしに使うと 否定的) 加算名詞 複数に用い、複数扱い。
a little - 少しある。。（肯定的) 量の形容詞 不可算名詞に 用い, 単数扱い。
little - (a なしに使うと 否定的) 量の形容詞 不可算名詞に 用い, 単数扱い。
1. 重要なpointは a few, a little は肯定的な意味、few, littleは否定的な意味になる事
a few, a little 少しの（ある）。。
例文 1; 友達は 少し(何人)は ある.
例文 4; 花が 少し(何人) ある.
例文 6; お金が 少し ある.
few, little ; ほとんどない....
例文 2; 友達が ほとんどない.
例文 7; お金が ほとんどない.
3. few, littleは 否定語 not 使わず否定の内容を表すことを記憶して ください。.
英語文法では a なしに使う few, littleは 否定語 not を使わずに 否定の内容を
表していると説明しています。
[ほとんどない。。..] で 訳されるからです。
このように否定的な 意味を表すとの意味では,
a few = not....many になります。例文3番.
a little = not....much になります。例文 8番.
日本語で;
" 彼は 友達も ほとんどない, お金も ほとんどない " を 言いたい時は?
( 友達複数 - 加算名詞, ほとんどないfew, お金 - 不可算名詞, ほとんどない little )
" 冬に Tokyoには 雪の日が ほとんどないです " を 言いたい時は?
( 雪のひ複数 - snowy days, 加算名詞, ほとんどない(否定的ないみ) - a fewではなく few )
例えば;
(a) He has few friends and little money.
(b) There are few snowy days during the winter season in Tokyo.
