Good morning all,

 

3 days already have passed since year 2009 got started!

 

It is a bit dark and cloudy sky this morning here in Tokyo.

According to TV news, it is about 5.8 degrees this morning and

it will be about 10 degrees during daytime.

 

Here is Today's English

 

Seq 53 ( unit 3 ) : lessons 3 冠詞 (a,an,the)の 使い例文

 

1. Richard has two cars and a motorcycle

2. Arthur moved to a new apartment last week. There are five families in the apartment.

3. Angela prefers wine and beer

4. I prefer classical music to pop music

5. Dr.Smith graduated from Harvard University in 1980

6. The advice you gave me was very helpful.

7. The wine is sweet.

 

Words,Phrases & Patterns

> prefer A to B ; Bより Aをより好き. toは　比較のthanの意味

> graduate from ; ...を 卒業する.

 

冠詞のついて もう一度 簡単に整理すると;

 

1. 不定冠詞 a,an : (不定)は 不特定の 意味
- たくさんのなかで不特定の 一人の, 一つの

- a, anは 加算名詞(数える 名詞-普通名詞)の 単数に 必ず つける

- 不可算名詞は数えない名詞なのでa, an つけない

 

2. 定冠詞 the : (定)は 特定の 意味

- 話手と聞き手の間で 知っている 特定な その.....

- 加算名詞にも、不可算名詞にへも使う

- ただ, 人の 名前などの固有名詞には原則的に使わない

- 物質名詞, 抽象名詞の 特定なものを表す時はつかう

( 物質名詞) The wine, The coffee

(抽象名詞) The advice, The information

 

例文で;

1番は carは 加算名詞, 複数なので - cars, motorcycle も 加算名詞で　単数なので

a motorcycle

2番は partmentは 加算名詞で, a new partment は ある ひとつの apartment, the partmentは その apartmentの意味

3番は wine, beerは 物質名詞(不可算名詞)で a 使わない

4番は music, popは 抽象名詞(不可算名詞)で a 使わない

5番は Dr.Smith, Harvard Universityは 固有名詞(不可算名詞)で a 使わない

6番は advice は 抽象名詞だが, あなたが下さった 忠告で 特定なものなので, the advice

7番は wineは 物質名詞だが, そのwine の意味で, the wine

 

注意; 定冠詞 theは 加算, 不可算にも 使いますが, 固有名詞では 原則的に使わない

New York に the 使わない。

ただ, ホテル、 新聞などの名前として　the New York　だと使う  

 

日本語で; 英語作文する時 英語の名詞に 冠詞を どう使うか 少しは 分かりますね!

 

例えば;

(a) The website was created to provide information about the company's range of products.

( information ; 抽象名詞で 数えないので a 使わない )

(b) Lock the door when you go out ( 話し手と聞き手が どの 玄関のdoorか 知っているので、特定の the を 使う)
