今日は ' It .... ' を用いた表現の中で, 日本語で ' ....のようだ'と何かの 様子を述べる
場合には以下の表現を使います.
It seems as if... (..のようだ)
It looks as if ..... ( ...のようだ)
It sounds as if .. (...のようだ )
It sounds as if there is somebody at the door. ( ドアの所に誰かいるみたいだ )
= It sounds as though there is somebody at the door.
= It sounds like there is somebody at thr door.
= It sounds that there is sobody at the door.
例文>
It seems as if my work associates refrained from
criticizing me on account of my being within hearing distance.
同僚達は, 私が聞こえるところにいたため私の批判を差し控えたかのようだった。
単語>
associate ; (名) 同僚, 仲間
refrain ; (動) (公式的) 差し控える,
refrain from ; (動) ..を差し控える
criticizet ; (動) ...を批判する
on account of ; ...が理由で ( = because of...)
within....distance ; (副詞) ...な距離に ( within walking distance 歩いて行ける距離で )
説明> これら表現は慣用表現で, as if ......は as though ....で置き換えることができますし、
that や like に置きかえってもOKです. それと, ここで as if ....の 表現は仮定文ではないので、
直説法で表現します.
It seems as if [as though, that, like ].....
It looks as if [ as though, that, like ]....
It sounds as if [ as though, that, like ]....
