Seq 365 ( unit 17  様々な否定表現 ) : lesson 4 < 弱い否定を表す hardly any の表現 >

 

皆さん, 日本語の " ほとんど ...ない' との意味を表す 'hardly, scarcely, barely' は any, everと

一緒に使われて次の意味を表します.

 

hardly [scarcely, barely] any + 名詞  ( 数量が少ないことを表す) ( ほとんど...ない )

hardly [scarcely, barely] ever + 動詞 ( 回数が少ないことを表す ) (めったに..しない )

 

There is hardly any tea left.  / 数量

She hardly ever calls me ( = She almost never calls me ) / 回数

There is hardly any doubt that their ambiguous reply
