1. whether、 if は 次のように 名詞節(間接疑問文)と 副詞節 両方で使います.
[ 名詞節を作る場合 - 主語, 目的語, 補語などの ] 役割をする
(a) I am not sure (of) whether I can do it or not.
(b) I am not sure (of) if I am pronouncing this correctly.
(c) It is not certain whether he will come or not.
(d) He asked me if I liked it or not.
(e) I don't know whether he is glad or sorry.
[ whether が 副詞節 譲歩文を表す時 ]
(a) Whether you like it or not, you must do it.
(b) Whether sick or well, He is always cheerful.
[ if が副詞節で 仮定, 条件を表す時]
(a) If you are tired, you should have a rest.(仮定)
(b) If you ask him, he will help you. (条件)
説明> 上の例文で, I am not sure..後の whether [if] S V ... もよく使います,
この場合は前置詞 (of)の目的語として使われたと考えられます. (of)は普通省略します。
