説明> 本来 '何'の意味の疑問詞である what が 関係代名詞として使われる時は '...こと' になります.
関係代名詞 としての what は 'what = the thing which' で 先行詞を 含んでいるといいます.
そして, この 関係代名詞 what は ' ....こと'で 名詞節として, 文章で 主語, 補語, 目的語

日本語に '...こと' がありますが、日本語の この 'こと' が 英語の関係代名詞 what です.

私がやりたい こと -> What I want to do
私が買いたい こと -> What I want to buy
あなたがやりたい こと -> What you want to do
やりたい ことを 私に 話してください -> Tell me what you want to do
あなたが ほしいな ことを 分りません -> I don't know what you want
あなたが 話した ことが 理解できない! -> I don't understand what you said.
説明> 関係代名詞として使われる whatは 日本語の 'こと'で, 特徴は, 先行詞を含んでいることです.
いわゆる, whatは the thing which のいみで the thingの 意味を含んでいて, '...こと' の意味になることです! この 'こと', 'what' は 文章で '名詞節'として使われ, '主語', '目的語', '補語'の役割をします.
